Question Persuade Refer (QPR) Gatekeeper Training is an evidence-based method for suicide prevention for teens and adults to use in their communities and workplaces.
This course teaches participants to:
- Question, Persuade and Refer someone who may be suicidal
- Get help for themselves and learn more about preventing suicide
- Identify the common causes of suicidal behavior
- Recognize the warning signs of suicide
- Get help for someone in crisis

Question Persuade Refer (QPR) Gatekeeper Instructor Training certifies adults to teach the QPR Gatekeeper training, an evidence-based method for suicide prevention, to teens and adults in their communities and workplaces.
This course teaches participants to:
- Understand the nature, range and importance of suicidal communications and their importance in preventing suicide.
- Identify groups at greatest risk of suicide and why QPR can work for them.
- Train others as QPR Gatekeepers, how to save lives and help prevent suicidal behaviors.
- Effectively promote suicide prevention in their own communities.

Length | In Person: 8 hours; Virtual: 2 - 3 hours of asynchronous prework/postwork +6 hours synchronous (live webinar). Either delivery type can be split into 2 sessions on different days. |
Benefits | 3 year certification and 12 clock hours from National Board for Certified Counselors |
Scholarship Requirements | Complete course evaluation, pass certification test (virtual only), submit quarterly training data for the life of the grant, complete 3 post training evaluations. |
